NAASS Award Submissions

Important for the 2018 Conference: All award types (Creative & Innovative and Western Region) are open to all NAASS members for this year’s co-hosted conference!
All awards submissions were due August 31, 2018, but have now been extended to September 7, 2018.

NAASS Creative & Innovative Awards

Each year, NAASS recognizes member schools that offer creative and innovative programs. Through these awards, NAASS seeks to highlight the importance of curriculum development, give credit to summer session administrators who make outstanding contributions to the operation/management of summer session, and provide a forum for members to learn from each other. Award submission are reviewed by the awards committee members and showcased via the awards poster session during the conference. Winners are announced during the NAASS banquet and awarded a plaque.

Awards will go to projects/work that demonstrate innovation and creativity in the following categories:

Categories include:

  • Marketing: Innovation and creativity in planning overall marketing campaigns as well as individual promotions to brand summer session.
  • Credit: Courses for which students earn college-level credit hours that apply toward a degree.
  • Non-Credit: All other courses categorized as non-credit, even though “credit” may be earned toward teacher CEUs, a high school diploma, etc.
  • Administrative: Innovative strategies and ideas in planning, financing, marketing, reporting, administrative structure, public relations, student services, and other similar areas engaged in by the summer session leadership and staff.

Western Region Awards (prev. known as WASSA)

Note: Western Region Awards are open to members of NAASS from all regions for the 2018 co-hosted conference!

Each year, the Western Region recognizes member schools within the following categories. Since 1946, the Western Region (prev. WASSA) has always been about sharing with others in order to help strengthen the services and support we provide to higher education and our communities. Through these awards, the Western Region seeks to highlight the innovation and excellence of our colleagues. Award submission are reviewed by their respective award committee members and are showcased via concurrent session presentations offered during the conference. Winners are announced during the NAASS banquet and awarded a plaque.

Categories include:

  • Marketing (3-categories)
    • Single “Best Marketing Idea”
    • Best Comprehensive Marketing Effort Created & Executed by the Summer Session Office
    • Best Comprehensive Marketing Effort that Includes Summer Session in the Institutional Marketing Plan or as Part of Another Campus Unit
  • Print Media (3-categories)
    • Best Printed Piece – “Charlie Award” (named in honor of Charlie White, Portland State University, WASSA President 1985)
    • Best Printed Media Advertising
    • Most Innovative Printed Promotional Item
  • Programs (4-categories)
    • Best Credit
    • Best Non-credit
    • Best Administrative
    • Best Use of a Stolen Idea – “Carol Switzer Award” (named in honor of Carol Switzer, Arizona State Univ., WASSA President 2001 & NAASS President 2004)
  • Website (1-category)
    • Best website

Within each of the above categories, several allow the choice to submit for the award, or for review only.
If you are submitting for an award (not applicable to “review only” submissions), please ensure a representative from your institution attends the conference.
